Which Greek island has the best beaches?
There is no single winner. Milos has the most striking coastline, Crete has the widest variety, Lefkada and Zakynthos have the famous turquoise water, and Naxos has the best long sandy beaches for a relaxed stay.
When is the water warm enough to swim in Greece?
The sea is comfortable from late May to late October. It peaks around 25 to 27 degrees in August and September, and September is usually the best combination of warm water and thinner crowds.
Do I need a car to reach the best beaches?
On the larger islands, yes. On Crete, Naxos, Rhodes and Lefkada the best beaches are spread out and buses are infrequent. On smaller islands a scooter or the local boat is usually enough.
